Interoperability and Metadata Harvesting

MENTOR Revista de Investigación Educativa y Deportiva uses Open Journal Systems (OJS), a platform developed by the Public Knowledge Project (PKP), and provides interoperability mechanisms that allow publication metadata to be automatically exposed and harvested by repositories, harvesters, and other academic discovery systems.

OAI-PMH Protocol

MENTOR uses the Open Archives Initiative Protocol for Metadata Harvesting (OAI-PMH), version 2.0, to facilitate interoperability and structured harvesting of article metadata.

OJS can expose metadata in Dublin Core and, depending on the plugins enabled in the installation, in other formats supported by its OAI-PMH infrastructure.

Dublin Core

Article metadata may be harvested in Dublin Core using the oai_dc metadata prefix.

Metadata exposed through OAI-PMH facilitates harvesting and integration by repositories, library catalogues, discovery services, and other interoperable systems.

Google Scholar

Metadata exposure through OAI-PMH is independent from Google Scholar indexing.

OJS provides citation metadata on article pages that may be used by academic search and discovery services. Actual indexing in Google Scholar depends on Google Scholar’s own crawling and selection processes and is not carried out through the OAI-PMH protoco.
