Abstract

The digitalization reduces movement and increases sedentary behavior, although physical activity improves health, current environments favor inactivity. The objective of the research was to critically analyze the relationship between physical activity, digital sedentary behavior and health in contemporary society, in order to problematize the implications of intensive screen use on bodily movement and overall well-being. The study was qualitative theoretical based on documentary review of scientific literature between 2020 and 2025, from Scopus and PubMed databases; thematic synthesis was applied to analyze physical activity, digital sedentary behavior and health. Digital sedentary behavior reorganizes daily movement, reduces physical activity and affects physical and mental health; post-pandemic patterns persist. Technological interventions show limited effects and depend on context. It is concluded that digital sedentary behavior is structural, physical activity does not compensate its impact, technology is ambivalent, therefore comprehensive interventions are required that transform social, educational and organizational environments to promote movement.
