Big Data and Sports Tourism: a documentary analysis of its use and application in the context of the digital era in the Dominican Republic

Abstract

The general objective of this study was to characterize Big Data and Sports Tourism in the Dominican Republic, through a documentary analysis of its use and application in the context of the digital era. The methodological approach was immersed in the qualitative paradigm, since no numerical information or statistical references were used for the analysis. The type of research was documentary, which facilitated the review of research and surveys for its discernment. The technique used was the bibliographic review through the SciELO, Redalyc, Dialnet and Google Scholar databases. Among the results, it could be evidenced that Big Data allows the recording of large volumes of information, and through digital technologies it can be organized and managed in a versatile way. As conclusions, Big Data for the registration of tourism services in sports in the Dominican Republic is an activity that is in the process of consolidation. However, greater emphasis is required in the systematic collection of historical data and in the development of more sophisticated analytical methods and tools that allow a deeper and more detailed analysis of trends and patterns in this area.
