Abstract

The teaching of Natural Sciences faces challenges due to the lack of teacher training and adequate pedagogical resources to integrate the Sustainable Development Goals, especially in rural contexts. The objective of this research was to analyze the barriers and opportunities for the effective integration of the Sustainable Development Goals in the teaching of Natural Sciences, in order to develop pedagogical strategies adapted to different educational contexts. This study followed a qualitative paradigm with a multiple case design, using semi-structured interviews and focus groups with 20 Natural Sciences teachers in urban and rural institutions in Ecuador. Urban teachers achieved more effective integration thanks to access to resources and continuous training, while rural teachers faced significant barriers, such as a lack of resources and difficulties in contextualization. It is concluded that it is essential to adapt pedagogical strategies to local realities to achieve equitable and effective implementation of sustainability goals, especially in rural areas.
