Abstract

The autism spectrum disorder is a condition that affects the physical, cognitive and social level, therefore, people can´t relate in a suitable way with society and, in some cases, become excluded. Dance Movement Therapy is a tool that seeks and promotes the development of areas affected by illnesses, disabilities, disorders, etc. The objective of this study was to describe the benefits of Dance Movement Therapy (DMT) in autism spectrum disorder (ASD). For the information search, variables were entered in databases, such as: ScienceDirect, PubMed, Researchgate and Google Scholar. To limit the information, five inclusion criteria were introduced, the steps of the PRISMA statement were followed, in the analysis of results, thirty documents related to the subject of study were selected, showing varied research topics and methods used such as: the mirror, music, movement, rhythm, among others, which enriched this systematic review and its objective. Finally, the benefits found with the application of different methods or interventions in Dance Movement Therapy achieve a considerable decrease in the symptomatology presented by people with ASD, providing a better quality of life.
