Innovative education: STEAM approach as a response to the needs of today's society

Abstract

Education should be an active process which allows students to develop various skills to develop in society, applying methodologies such as the STEAM approach (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics), will enable this by incorporating various areas of knowledge, streamlining teaching. The objective of this research was to analyze the application of didactic methodology to innovate the teaching-learning process. A quantitative approach was used, the technique employed was the survey with its respective instrument, the questionnaire, which consisted of 15 questions applied to the population of 33 teachers. To verify the validity of the instrument, Cronbach's Alpha was used, yielding a reliability value of 71.5%. SPSS Statistic software was used to strategically analyze the results, by means of the Chi-square statistical method, which allowed a correlation between the variables, obtaining as results less than 0.05 and greater than 0.05 in the relationships; approving the alternative hypotheses (Ha) and the null hypotheses (Ho). Finally, the results of the study indicated that an interdisciplinary approach is necessary to optimize the process in basic education.
