Abstract

Soccer is a global sport whose practice during adolescence influences athletic performance. Aerobic and anaerobic endurance are essential for optimizing performance. The objective of this study was to analyze the relationship between the level of sports experience and endurance capacity in U-15 and U-17 soccer players. A quantitative, cross-sectional, and correlational approach was used with 25 adolescent soccer players from Esmeraldas, Ecuador. The Andersen Test was applied to assess aerobic endurance, along with a structured questionnaire for coaches and a document review. No significant correlation was found between sports experience and aerobic endurance. The T-test showed that the U-15 and U-17 categories have similar VO₂max values. However, coaches' perceptions indicated a mistaken belief that greater experience implies better endurance. The findings challenge the idea that competitive experience determines aerobic endurance. Additionally, there is a need for training programs based on scientific evidence, as methodological planning has a greater influence than the number of matches played on the development of aerobic performance in young soccer players.
