Tummy time has physical, psychological and social benefits in infants, a duration of 30 minutes a day is recommended, however, little is known about its practice in middle and low-income countries. To describe the practice of tummy time and to analyze the sociodemographic determinants that determine its practice in the Mexican population. Cross-sectional analytical study in 164 mothers with children under 6 months of age. Sociodemographic data and characteristics of the practice were investigated according to onset, frequency and duration in 24 hours. Logistic regression was used to identify determinants. 9.8% of the infants complied with the practice recommendations. The age of the infants was a determinant of adherence in frequency and duration; mothers with a partner were less likely to comply with frequency and duration, in addition, average economic income favored compliance with the practice. The low implementation and determinants coincide with that reported in high-income countries. Low adherence to the practice is related to socioeconomic factors. It is essential to implement interventions aimed at promoting the practice considering the needs and family dynamics of the Mexican population.
