Development of a Scale for Identifying Athletic Talent in Middle School Students

Athletics is a key discipline in school sports development, and early identification of talent in this area can maximize students' athletic potential from an early age. The objective of this study was to develop a scale based on the characteristics of Higher Basic Education students of the Americano Fiscomisional Educational Unit in Santa Elena province, for the identification of future talents in athletics. In this study, a descriptive and correlational quantitative research was used; collecting data through anthropometric measurements and physical tests of speed, strength, jumping and endurance. SPSS software was used for statistical analysis and normalization of results by percentiles. The sample was made up of 40 12-year-old students, randomly selecting 20 men and 20 women through quota sampling. The results obtained showed that the scale allows a classification of athletic potential in students from the Santa Elena province, differentiated by both genders. This study contributes to the field of sports talent detection, thus offering a useful tool for this evaluation in initiation stages and affirming its extensive study at the provincial level for a possible national application.
