Physical Education: Comparison of the Sports and Playful Approaches in Physical Education: Implications for Inclusion

The tension between ludic and sports approaches in Physical Education highlights inclusion as both a challenge and an opportunity to ensure equitable participation in diverse school contexts. The objective of this research was to comparatively analyze both approaches, identifying their inclusive implications based on literature and interviews with high school teachers. The methodology relied on a qualitative approach, multiple case study with 12 teachers, semi-structured interviews, expert validation, triangulation, and thematic analysis to build emerging categories. The results showed that the ludic approach fostered motivation and cooperation, while the sports approach demonstrated inclusive potential when rules and roles were adapted and co-teaching strategies were applied. The conclusions indicated that inclusion depended on teacher mediation and on a hybrid model that combined ludic flexibility and sports structure, requiring continuous training, adequate infrastructure, and flexible curricular policies.
