Adolescence is a developmental stage characterized by heightened sensitivity to sociocultural appearance ideals. This study aimed to analyze the relationships among media content consumption, body satisfaction, and social physique anxiety, considering age, perceived social status, and locality among female adolescents from two rural communities in Veracruz, Mexico. A quantitative, non-experimental, cross-sectional study was conducted with 96 adolescents from public schools, selected through non-probability convenience sampling. Participants completed a Media Content Consumption Survey, the Body Satisfaction subscale of the Body Self-Esteem Scale, and the Social Physique Anxiety Scale. Data were analyzed using Spearman’s rank correlations, the Mann–Whitney U test, and multiple linear regression. More frequent social media use and lower body satisfaction were associated with higher social physique anxiety, jointly accounting for 19% of its variance (R² = .19, p < .001). Older age was associated with lower body satisfaction, whereas higher perceived social status within the school context was associated with greater body satisfaction. No significant differences were found between localities. These findings highlight the relevance of considering social media use and body-related self-evaluation jointly to better understand social physique anxiety among adolescents in rural contexts.
